DFID Guidance Note on Research Communication (2009) Print
Friday, 05 July 2013 16:17

The Department for International Development (DFID) publication, a Guidance Note on Research Communication, is a useful, high-level guide that explains the various stages of developing, implementing and monitoring a communication strategy.

The June 2009 publication offers good insight into how large donor bodies are encouraging strengthened Research Uptake and communication, and as such it will be instructive for research teams wanting to enhance their research communication systems. The guide lists 10 principles for effective research communication and provides an overview of the expertise needed in communication staff. It also looks at the development of a community of practice. Finally, it lists a selection of publications and website resources on communications.

It is important to note that the document has been designed for programmes and projects that already have research funding from DFID. While funding for research comes from many different sources and only some projects are funded by DFID, the guide could nonetheless also be very useful for projects yet to source funding.
